Blooming Winter Mornings
Florists Chrysanthemum scientifically called Chrysanthemum morifolium is popularly known in Hindi as "Chandramallika" or "Sewanti" belongs to the Asteraceae family. They grow in bunches during the Winter season and have a very beautiful appearance.
I used to live in a rented home owned by Sharma's a Brahmin family in a locality named Sunder Nagar. The owner's used to live in the ground floor while the space in first floor was allocated to us and one fine Winter morning I noticed these wonderful flowers on my staircase and the dew drops over them were looking like crystals from the little light that they got, as it was an overcast winter day. I instantly opened my bag and took out the camera to capture this beauty.
Blood Lust
Nerium Oleander commonly known as Oleander and called as "Kaner" in Hindi is a hardy shrub that is widely used as an ornamental plant hails from the Dogbane family of Apocynaceae. It was considered as a poisonous plant because it consists of many toxic chemicals, but poisoning cases are rarely seen because of it's bitter taste.
Me and my family were on a long drive on a holiday and we were driving towards the outskirts of the city when on my way I say these lovely blood red flowers ornamentally decorated on the roadside walkways by the Public Welfare Department. I was mesmerised by their beauty and their stark contrast with the dark green leaves. By the way I was specially more attracted to it's bloody red finish coz' I was addicted to the "Vampire Diaries" TV show at that time.
FightinG Diseases...& Myths
Lemon Scientifically called Citrus limon is commonly known as “Neembu” in Hindi in our India. It’s juice consists 5% to 6% of citric acid which has a pH value of 2.2 which gives it a distinctive sour taste. Lemon is highly used in culinary purposes throughout the Asian countries from cooking & baking to garnishing.
These days this citrus fruit is highly popular around the world during this pandemic because of it’s high value of Vitamin C which is thought to be highly effective in fighting the Corona Virus or COVID-19 disease. There are a lot of myths going around due to the fear of COVID-19 but Vitamin C doesn’t kill corona virus although it does raise your immunity level which can help in fighting the disease, apart from this it helps in fighting cancer, kidney stones, regulating blood sugar and helps in weight loss.
But do keep in mind that over consumption of Citric Acid or Vitamin C can cause inflammation in throat, or can weaken your enamel which can induce tooth decay and can also cause acid reflux.
Golden Shower
Golden Shower or Indian Laburnum scientifically known as Cassia fistula, and Amaltaas in Hindi, is a very beautiful tree which flowers in the spring i.e. March-April in India and as the name suggests it blooms in big bunches that appear to be showering and has a very vibrant and lemon yellow appearance. It is the national flower of Thailand and it’s leaves represent Thai royalty & it’s blooms are called “Dok Koon” in Thai. Amaltaas is also the state flower of Kerala and boasts a religious significance in many parts of South India due to the festival of “Vishu” which marks the first day of astronomical year and it is believed that “Lord Krishna” who is an incarnation of “Lord Vishnu” killed the demon Narakasura and hence “Lord Vishnu” & “Lord Krishna” are worshipped on this day.
I used to be very shy taking pictures in public in the beginning and this one is from that time and taking this photo helped me overcome my shyness as this tree was situated right in the middle of a very busy road and a lot of people passing by stared at me with curiosity. Anyways everything worked out really fine and I really loved the outcome till date.
