Indian Cormorant

The Indian Cormorant or Indian Shag scientifically called Phalacrocorax fuscicollis is a large bird species from the Cormorant family that is found in the Indian Sub-continent. They usually nest close to water bodies and spend most of their time preying on fishes and other aquatic species. They have blue eyes, small head sloping towards the slender bill that's hooked towards the end. These have a bronze-brown plumage with parts of bodies covered in black and their streamlined body helps them a lot in swimming underwater and their webbed feet also adds up to this.

A Magnificent Landing

I took this magnificent picture on the very popular lake of my city, The Telibanda Lake also called Marine Drive of Raipur. I was actually resting on the lake after one of my street projects as I have already told earlier in the Chinese Goose post and after a while I noticed these birds fishing on this lake. They would swim slowly around the water and then suddenly start flying atop the lake and take a swift dive into it and then come up with a fresh catch. It's disappointing that I wasn't able to capture their catch as my camera battery was dying but there was enough juice to make this happen.

Those lovely patterns forming on their bronze feathers and that sleek and sharp curve on the end of the wings just make this picture so amazing. Love this shot.
