White Throated Kingfisher

White Throated Kingfisher also known as White-Breasted Kingfisher scientifically called Halcyon smyrnensis and called "Raam Chiraiyaa" in Hindi is widely distributed in Asia and it's a tree Kingfisher. This is a large Kingfisher compared to other species of Kingfisher family and can be easily identified by the big white patch in it's breast starting just below it's bill. The back, wings and tail are turquoise coloured and the head, shoulders, flanks and lower belly are chestnut in colour. It has a large strok shaped bill which is bright red in colour and the legs are also red coloured.

First Impressions Last Long

I had been on another of my trips to the countryside of Chhattisgarh nearby Mungeli and while I was approaching a small town named Lormi I noticed this marvellous bird. Actually I was driving through a narrow patch of road and a water canal was on one side of the car and a rice field on the other. It was monsoon and the sun hadn't shown for the last three days and as I stepped out of the car with my camera I sighed in relief as it was raining very lightly, so I had got a few minutes in my hand to take the shot. But, just as I was about to take the shot I was disappointed to see the fog accumulating on the front element of the lens due to the change in temperature. I waited for the fog on my lens to clear out and as soon as it was gone I began composing my frame and I would say that I got lucky, BTW this was my first time seeing a Kingfisher bird in my life.
