Jungle Babbler

The Jungle Babbler scientifically called Argya striata is found in the Indian Subcontinent are a member of the family Leiothrichidae. They are very sociable birds and often forage in a group of six or seven birds and thus are popularly known as “Satbehni” in India which means “Seven Sisters” in Hindi. These are non-migratory birds and have short rounded wings and a weak flight. They are brownish grey in colour with an orangish yellow bill and pale yellowish eyes which contrast greatly with their body colour. These are very noisy birds with a harsh nasal call.

Framing Jungle & Babbler

I was on a trip with a very close friend of mine Abhishek, and we were in Mungeli where he had some work in a Government institution. I had some spare time in my hand, so I took out my camera and put on my telephoto lens and wandered around looking for something to capture and noticed this cute little one perched on a bamboo protruding from the shade of a house. This is the moment just before the bird took a leap. The reason I love this picture is that the house and the bird are similarly coloured and contrast well with the green background and also divide the frame in half creating a nice composition. The rich, vibrant and clean air of monsoon made this image more attractive and alive.
