
Both of these images were taken from my terrace during twilight when the Waterhen's are most active. I was bird watching a swamp that sits right beside my house and saw this bird hiding and foraging between these bushes.

White Breasted Waterhen scientifically called Amaurornis phoenicurus and "Jalmurgi" in Hindi are from the Rail & Crake family. They have a dark slaty appearance with a white face, neck and breasts and have a cinnamon coloured belly and under-tail. They have long slender yellowish legs and a yellow beak which has a reddish upper base. They mainly forage on marshy lands and shallow water bodies feeding on insects and smaller fishes.
