Black Drongo

The Black Drongo scientifically called Dicrurus macrocercus and "Kotwal" (Police Officer) in Hindi is a passerine bird. This bird has a glossy black appearance with a forked tail and a white rectal spot on the base of the beak. Drongos are highly aggressive birds and tends to chase down larger birds of prey like eagles and kites that invade it's nesting zone and for this very reason many smaller birds nest around a protective pair of drongo. They are also informally called King Crow for their fearless and aggressive nature. Drongos fly with strong flap of wings and have swift reflexes and are capable of fast manoeuvres mid-air which helps them catching up insects. They also have a huge range of calls and can mimic and imitate many birds.

The "Man in Black" of birds, caught this young juvenile Black Drongo perched on the fencing of a city garden. Notice that it has not yet developed the white rectal spot on the base of it's beak.

Captured at different instances, the first image shows this bird in the middle of it's flight.

In the second image the bird can be seen chasing an insect and I was shocked to see how fast this bird can change it's direction of flight.

The third was taken seconds before the main image.
